Shawn Mendes has just opened up about his breakup from Camila Cabello in a new confessional video meant to promote his upcoming music.
Breaking up with someone is never easy. And that involves that moment when you take the decision, and you finally do it, but also the aftermath.
And, despite the fact that Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are international superstars, it doesn’t hurt less.
In a new confessional video that’s meant to promote his music, the Canadian singer got very real about his “reality.”
Shawn Mendes also reflected on his life post-breakup. “A lot of the things that also is like, resonating in the lyric for me is like, oh, f**k, you know, you don’t realize, like, when you’re like, breaking up with someone, you like think it’s the right thing to do, you don’t realize all this s–t that comes after it. Like, who do I call when I’m like, in a panic attack? Who do I call when I’m like, f**king, on the edge?“
He continued, “I think that’s the reality that kind of hit me. It’s like, oh, I’m on my own now. Now I feel like finally, like, I’m actually on my own, and I hate that. That’s my reality, you know?“
The two had a very public romance that lasted two years. Plus, a lot of pining from Shawn Mendes, who had been in love with Camila for years. The two got together in 2019, following their collaboration song, “Señorita,” and dated for two years.
They announced their breakup in November 2019. Sources claim Shawn is the one who “initiated” the conversation, but the two “agreed” it was for the best.
Ever since, they’ve both released some breakup songs, including Mendes’ “It’ll Be Okay,” and Camila’s collaboration song with Ed Sheeran, “Bam Bam.”
