Swifies everywhere were taken by surprise by a new report indicating that Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn broke up after six years of dating.
Let’s go back to 2016. Taylor Swift was in her most difficult era with the public after the Kanye West and Kim Kardashian attack. She was often called a snake and other horrible names.
It was also the year she broke up with Calvin Harris after 15 months of dating and surprised everyone with her relationship with actor Tom Hiddleston. The two met at the MET Gala, and were often seen traveling the world together. It did not last, as it was just a “getaway car” from her DJ boyfriend.
The same year, in September 2016, she started dating Joe Alwyn. A up-and-coming British actor, Joe Alwyn was everything the other boyfriends were not: not that famous (at the time).
Taylor and Joe had the world’s most private relationship, refusing to talk about another in interviews.
At the same time, multiple reports claimed the two were incredibly happy and in Taylor’s most mature relationship.
And yes, let’s talk about the music. During her six-year relationship to Alwyn, Swift didn’t just write songs about him, she wrote songs with him.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the two flirted with the idea of writing songs ideas that ended up on Swift’s surprise albums, folklore and evermore. It’s also what got Alwyn a Grammy win.
But on April 8, reports claim that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn broke up after six years of dating. Entertainment Tonight was the first to report the news, with sources confirming the news to PEOPLE.
Swift is currently at the beginning of her Eras tour, traveling all over the U.S. Unlike the Reputation Stadium Tour, where Alwyn was often seen in the public, the Brit hasn’t attended any of her shows yet. Initially, people commented that it was because he was busy filming. But it turns out, they have reportedly split weeks ago.
According to reports, the split was mutual and that “it’s why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows.”
Neither Swift nor Alwyn confirmed the news at the time of press, but, knowing them, it’s likely they won’t.
