Meghan Markle announces her first children’s book as she’s making her way into the literary world. Meghan’s first book is called The Bench, and is based on a poem to Prince Harry.

A few days ago, Prince Harry took the stage at Global Citizen Vax Live Concert. The Duke of Sussex emphasized the importance of the vaccine, and how people should work together in order to end the pandemic. Prince Harry also highlighted the fact that everyone should be able to have access to the vaccine.
Prince Harry said: “The vaccine must be distributed to everyone everywhere. We cannot rest or truly recover until there is fair distribution to every corner of the world. The mission in front of us is one we cannot afford to fail out and that’s what tonight is about. The virus does not respect borders and access to the vaccine cannot be determined by geography. It must be accepted as a basic right for all and that is our starting point.”
His wife is doing her bit too. Meghan Markle announces her first children’s book, The Bench. In a press release from publisher Random House Children’s Books, Meghan explained: “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born. That poem became this story.”
The couple, who are currently parents to Archie, 2, are expecting again. During their televised interview with Oprah, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they’re expecting a baby girl.
Caldecott-winning artist Christian Robinson illustrated the book. The book jacket features an image of a bench beneath a tree, with chickens nearby. In the press release, Meghan is described as “a mother, wife, feminist, and activist” who “currently resides in her home state of California with her family, two dogs, and a growing flock of rescue chickens.”
Meghan said: “Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life. This representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”
While the couple gave up their royal duties, Meghan still uses “Duchess of Sussex” on the cover of the book.
