Ed Sheeran has just revealed that he’s almost done with mathematical titles after his upcoming album, which will be “-” (Substract).
When Ed Sheeran debuted, over a decade ago, he started something very original: naming all his albums after mathematical symbols.
Over the years, he’s released four of them. His debut album was +, followed by X (Multiply), ÷ (Divide), and his latest album, = (Equals). So, he only has one left, – (Substract).
Even before he released his latest one in the fall of 2021, there has been talk that there would be two of them. And there was some truth to the rumors, because the new album is almost ready to go.
Although there hasn’t been an official release statement, or a date, the fifth album is to be released sometime in 2022. But this would also mark Ed Sheeran’s last mathematical titled album.
Speaking on the Australian Carrie Tommy podcast, the “Perfect” singer said: “That’s it. There’s only five. The other one will be out before I come to New Zealand [and Australia] to do the tour.”
Ed will kickoff the second leg of his +–=÷x Tour (pronounced ‘Mathematics Tour’) in New Zealand and Australia in early February 2023.
The first leg of the tour starts in April 2022 in Dublin. and will follow European locations.
The “Shivers” star called problems as a musician irrelevant “when you’re doing what you love.”
He added: “When you do what you love for a living, there’s always something that you’re like ‘meh’ about, but when it’s something in the midst of like 98% awesome, it just doesn’t matter.“
“So I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint one thing [I don’t like] but there’s obviously always something. … But if you lost that bit, you might lose everything else, because it all works together. So I don’t really view anything [specific]. My job is to play music every day, if I find something to complain about, that’s just weird.”
