Britney Spears collaborated again with will.i.am for “Mind Your Business,” a song that takes the superstar back an old theme: paparazzi.
You are now, now rocking with will.i.am and Britney b*tch
“Scream & Shout”
Britney Spears and will.i.am previously collaborated on “Scream & Shout,” and the duo has returned with a new song. Well, not that new, because reports claim the song was a reject from her 2013 album Britney Jean.
Plus, the cover art photo includes a 2003 picture of Britney from a Mike Liddell photoshoot instead of a new one. And we can see why she wouldn’t want to sit for a new photoshoot.
However, due to her conservatorship and privacy issues, Britney has often said she’s not that interested in her music career anymore. So, we’ll take whatever we can get.
Prior to this song, the “Toxic” superstar released a collaboration with Sir Elton John on “Hold Me Closer” last year. Her last album was 2016’s Glory.
In addition to “Scream & Shout,” Britney and will.i.am collaborated on her 2011 track “Big Fat Bass.” He also served as an executive producer on her 2013 album Britney Jean.
The song is fun, upbeat, and it’s not taking itself too seriously. It also takes Britney to a place we know to well — talking about paparazzi. It could be interpreted as a combination of “Scream & Shout” and Blackout‘s “Piece of Me.” She also addresses the paparazzi there.
Britney Spears and Paparazzi
Given the media’s obsession with Spears since she was young. Her music has often included messages to paparazzi to leave her alone – whether in the “Everytime” music video where they follow her to her hotel, “Piece of Me,” “Overprotected” and more. Now, she’s telling everyone to mind their business.
In the new song, the duo sing about being watched by photographers with “eyes up in the sky” and being followed “uptown, downtown, everywhere, turn around, Hollywood, London.” At one point, Britney chants, “Where she at? Where she at? Where she at?”
Before its release, will.i.am explained the important message behind the track, noting in an interview with CBS News, “There’s a thin line, and everyone deserves their version of privacy.”
