Britney Spears is reportedly lawyering up to protect her assets with a high-powered divorce lawyer as Sam Asghari allegedly makes claims to their prenup.
Prior to getting married in June 2022, Sam Asghari joked online that he and future bride Britney Spears will have an “iron-clad” prenup. That would be to protect the “Baby One More Time” singer’s assets worth $60 million, which would mean he wouldn’t get anything from her money before marriage.
On Wednesday, August 16, news broke out that Sam and Britney are heading for divorce. Although some sources claim there was some infidelity on her part involved, other insiders denied it. But Sam has moved out of their home and filed for divorce.
Now, it looks like he’s trying to get Britney Spears to pay him more than what their prenup provides in order to keep her secrets, Page Six reports.
According to the insider, Asghari is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.” The source claims, “So that’s what Sam is focused on.”
However, a different source adds that Spears’ team has “protected” the “Piece of Me” singer and that “parting will be respectful. It’s blackmail and it’ll never happen,” the insider revealed to the outlet.
Their prenup states that the actor was entitled to “$1 million per every two years” of their marriage, with a cap at $10 million after 15 years, according to US Weekly.
Amid it all, Britney is lawyering up. The same publication revealed that Britney Spears hired Hollywood lawyer Laura Wasser amid her split from Asghari. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Britney previously worked with Wasser for her custody case when she was fighting ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Alongside Wasser, she will have former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart. The two worked together as he helped free Spears from her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021. He also worked out the terms of the Grammy winner’s agreement with Asghari.
