One of the most famous actors, Bruce Willis, has just announced he’ll be retiring from acting after he received aphasia diagnosis.
It’s a very sad day in the movie world. Die Hard legend Bruce Willis will be retiring from acting. The 67-year-old has just received a diagnosis of aphasia, which is a medical condition that impacts the ability to communicate, both to understand or express speech.
The announcement came on social media, shared by his daughter, Rumer.
She shared a picture of her father, and added in her caption: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the message read.
The statement continued: “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that.
They signed it: “Love, Emma, Demi, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, & Evelyn“
The actor had been struggling with his speech for years, and coworkers suspected the actor might struggle with the condition.
Besides Die Hard, Willis was known for his role in the series Moonlighting (1985-1989), which scored him an Emmy award in 1987. He went on to win another one in 2000 for his guest role as Paul in Friends.
Other famous movies in his filmography include The Sixth Sense, Pulp Fiction, Armageddon, Moonrise Kingdom, and two appearances in The Expendables franchise.
