Daniel Radcliffe, who became internationally beloved with his role in the Harry Potter franchise, talked about which fellow actor left him “starstruck.” His answer is not really a surprise to any Potterhead.
Daniel Radcliffe grew to fame at a very young age. Harry Potter became a major international phenomenon almost immediately after the movies premiered.
But he, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and many other child actors at the time barely had time to process it.
In a new interview, Daniel Radcliffe revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he wasn’t intimidated by the likes of Dame Maggie Smith, Kenneth Branagh or Alan Rickman.
But which Harry Potter star left Daniel Radcliffe “starstruck?”
The actor explained: “The first person I remember being starstruck by was Gary Oldman. Because that was the age when I was aware of who he was and his work and also getting more serious about acting myself.”
“So, yeah, before that when you meet someone as a 9-year-old it’s sort of hard to like, gain starstruckness of them later on.”
Daniel was 15 when Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban premiered in 2004. He was around 13 when they filmed it.
But his answer isn’t really a surprise to all the Potterheads. Ever since Oldman joined the cast, Daniel has been impressed with him. He’s mentioned in different interviews how he felt his acting was better when he was in a scene with Oldman, and he was basically a fanboy.
He had shared with Thrillist: “Gary Oldman taught me the bass line to ‘Come Together,’ one day. I was learning bass at the time and he plays bass. I went in one morning — I was 14 — and just looked up to him so much. He had his bass in there and was teaching me the thing. That was amazing.”
