Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t stop being his adorable self as he was a guest on The Ellen Show. Talking about F1, the Australian racing driver explained why he has to put up with rigorous workouts to stay in shape.

Ellen DeGeneres explained that she got hooked on Formula 1 after watching Netflix‘s Drive to Survive. But she also asked why do they need such workouts, if they simply just drive.

Ricciardo explained: “It’s intense. You’re right, a lot of people say, ‘Well why do you need to be fit? I drive my car to work every day and it’s a breeze.’

But there’s more to that, because “The races are 90 minutes long … there’s what’s called G-forces and because we corner so fast, there’s like four or five Gs on our body, and that is a force which is trying to basically pull us out of the car.”

Hence the rigorous workouts, which target their core. “We need a lot of core strength, neck strength to basically just hold on. And we can lose up to between eight to 10 pounds (3.5-4.5kg) in a race.”

During the segment, he also handled an awkward question, which involved nature’s calling. Ellen asked: “And what if you have to pee? What if you drink before you get in the car?

Ricciardo laughed before answering the question, and said: “It’s a question we get asked a lot, ‘Have you ever peed in the car?’ He continued: “Everyone can relate to peeing, you need to relax. And it’s hard to relax driving at those speeds.

Then added: “I’ve never done it. If you have to go, you just painfully hold on until the end, but every bump, every little curb you hit hurts.”

The next F1 race will be in Mexico, on Sunday, November 7.
