Imelda Staunton will star as Queen Elizabeth on Season 5 of The Crown, and she announced the date for the next season… And we have to wait a while.
One of the most interesting things about The Crown, besides the amazing costumes and sets, was the fact that they changed the actors every two seasons.
Focusing on Queen Elizabeth’s life and reign, the Netflix show started with Claire Foy as a young queen. She did such a great job, and everyone was impressed with her performance, which gained her a few Emmy Awards.
Next, she handled the role to Academy-Award-winning actress Olivia Colman, who took over seasons four and five of the historical drama.
As the time came to an end, Imelda Staunton will be taking over for the shows’ last two seasons.
In a new message, Imelda opened up about her excitement and anxiety about the role, and also announced the season 5 premiere for The Crown.
She said, as she sat behind an office, with the pictures of the previous actresses behind her: “I’m delighted to be inheriting the role of Queen Elizabeth from two outstanding actresses. Most recently, the wonderful Olivia Colman, and who could forget the actress who originated the part, Claire Foy.”
Staunton continued: “I will do my utmost to maintain the very high standard that they set. Hopefully, I look calm, collected and capable. My stomach, meanwhile, is doing somersaults.”
She revealed: “On behalf of the cast and crew, we look forward to bringing you the next season of The Crown in November 22.”
