The haters gonna hate, hate, hate, but Taylor Swift‘s boyfriend Joe Alwyn is a Grammy winner. Joe, who wrote under the pseudonym William Bowery, helped Taylor co-write several songs on her Grammy winning album Folklore.
2020 was a difficult year for the entire world, but not for Taylor Swift. Out of pure boredom, Taylor stepped into the fictional world, created a few characters, won awards and broke records. James, Betty and Inez are all fictional characters. But the names are inspired from her friends’ Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively‘s children.
Stuck in quarantine, Taylor did what she did best. She started writing and creating. Her boyfriend of almost five years, British actor Joe Alwyn, has also helped. Alongside her team, Joe Alwyn is a Grammy winner. At first, his name on her album appeared under the pseudonym William Bowery. When Taylor released the Disney+ documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Session, she revealed his identity.
Taylor said: “There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity because it’s not a real person. So William Bowery is Joe, as we know. And Joe plays piano beautifully and he’s always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”
Joe’s name appears as a co-writer for the songs, “Exile” and “Betty”. He also co-produced “Exile,” “Betty,” “My Tears Ricochet,” “August,” “This Is Me Trying,” and “Illicit Affairs.”
Taylor also acknowledged Joe for the first time during her Grammy Awards acceptance speech on March 14. She thanked him and said: “Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.”
During an interview with Apple Music, Taylor commented on how Joe started writing music with her. “I say it was a surprise that we started writing together. But in a way it wasn’t because we have always bonded over music and had the same musical tastes, and he’s always the person showing me songs by artists, then they become my favorite songs.”
This might just be the beginning for the dynamic duo.
