Britain’s King Charles III has just been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Monday.
On Monday, Buckingham Palace gave an update on the monarch after he attended a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate last month. The palace revealed in a statement on Monday that King Charles underwent several tests, which confirmed a “form of cancer,” but didn’t specify further. According to a royal source to CNN, “the form of cancer detected was not prostate cancer.”
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the statement read. “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” it added.
King Charles, 75, spent three nights at the London Clinic, a private hospital in London, UK after his recent procedure. Following the intervention, it was previously revealed to be “doing well.” He returned from Sandringham on Monday, and will undergo treatment in London.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” Buckingham Palace’s statement said. “He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” the palace concluded.
King Charles III became a monarch after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022.
