Martin Bashir Apologizes for Princess Diana Interview

Over two decades ago, Martin Bashir had an interview with Princess Diana on BBC. But recently, both Prince William and Prince Harry spoke against Bashir. Both were claiming he had a role in their mother’s divorce and death.

After an official BBC inquiry, they found that Martin Bashir used “deceitful methods” to secure his controversial 1995 interview with Princess Diana.

The broadcaster “made lurid and false claims about the Royal Family which played on her fears and fueled paranoia,” Prince William said in a video statement.

“The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.” The deceitful methods interviewer Martin Bashir used to gain access to the princess for the one-on-one “substantially influenced what my mother said.”

In his first interview since the reports, Bashir claims he is “deeply sorry.”

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Bashir said: “I never wanted to harm Diana in any way. And I don’t believe we did. Everything we did in terms of the interview was as she wanted, from when she wanted to alert the palace, to when it was broadcast, to its contents.”

“I can’t imagine what their family must feel each day.”

The BBC inquiry found that Martin Bashir breached the BBC’s editorial guidelines. He reportedly created two false bank statements to improperly manipulate Diana into giving the interview, reports The Daily Telegraph.
