Disney has a big surprise for both Marvel and sports fans. ESPN teamed up with Marvel for a different kind of game between the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans, with an Avengers twist.
This idea is not new for ESPN. They have previously decided to test the waters before venturing into Marvel teritory. So the network brought a different experience to the viewers with “BetCast” for NBA fans interested in sports wagering. And they also had a “KidsCast” for the younger viewers.
Now they’re bringing up the big guns as ESPS teamed up with Marvel for an out-of-this-world game experience. What does it entail exactly? The game will feature an “NBA Special Edition” with elements from an original Marvel story, Deadline reports. The special will bring us characters like Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther, Captain America, Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange. The broadcast will use 3D virtual characters, animation packages and customized graphics. The story has the Avengers watching the game, hoping to find new heroes to help them save the planet, again.
Matt Kenny, ESPN’s vice president, programming and acquisitions, is excited about this new approach. He said in a statement: “We’re eager for fans to experience this unique, innovative presentation that will pair Marvel and ESPN’s exceptional storytelling and production.”
“NBA Special Edition Presented by State Farm: Marvel’s Arena of Heroes” will air on May 3. You’ll be able to watch it on ESPN2, the streaming-video outlet ESPN Plus or ESPN Deportes. For those who want to see the regular game, you can head to ESPN.
