Meghan Markle‘s Vax Live Concert speech highlights the fact that COVID-19 “disproportionately affected” affected women. She also spoke about the “feeling of joy” about her pregnancy.

Prince Harry also spoke at Global Citizen’s Vax Live Concert last week. In his speech, the Duke of Sussex highlighted the fact that we must work together in order to end the pandemic. He also encouraged people to get vaccinated. But he didn’t ignore the fact that some developing countries have no access to good healthcare and vaccines. Prince Harry said: “We need to lift up all of humanity and make sure that no person or community is left behind. What we do in this moment will stand in history and tonight, we stand in solidarity with the millions of families across India who are battling a devastating second wave.”

However, Meghan Markle’s Vax Live Concert speech focused on a slightly different theme. It looks like COVID-19 is affecting women harder than men. The Duchess of Sussex also mentioned healthcare and job opportunities for women of color during the pandemic.”

“My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter.”

“We’ve gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter. But it’s going to take every one of us to find our way forward. As campaign chairs of Vax Live, my husband and I believe it’s critical that our recovery prioritizes the health, safety and success of everyone, particularly women who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic,” said Meghan.

“Women, and especially women of color, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out. Since the pandemic began, nearly five-and-a-half million women have lost work in the U.S. And 47 million more women around the world are expected to slip into extreme poverty,” she continued.

She also encouraged people to work together. Meghan added that we “should insure that governments all around the world are donating their additional vaccines to countries in need.”

“My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It’s a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world. When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and the support to lead us forward. Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make and the actions we take now to set them up, and set all of us up, for a successful, equitable, compassionate tomorrow. We want to make sure that as we recover, we recover stronger. That as we rebuild, we rebuild together.”
