Netflix‘s Bridgerton has been a major success for the network, so its only natural that they would green lit a Bridgerton spin-off. The new show would be a prequel and it will focus on Violet Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury.
Bridgerton is an adaptation of Julia Quinn‘s novels in the same series. Currently, there are eight novels following all the Bridgerton children. Netflix and Shonda Rhimes adapted the books for the small screen, and they were a huge success.
The first book’s main characters are Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Rege-Jean Page) had such a great chemistry on screen, that fans want nothing else. Or probably just Rege-Jean Page.
Recently, there has been huge backlash when Rege announced he would not reprise his role. He has huge projects in store, and his character’s arc kind of ended with the first book. The second would focus on Daphne’s big brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey).
But while season two is currently filming, Netflix has something else in store for us. A prequel.
The network just announced that they have a Bridgerton spin-off in the works. The spin-off will focus on “the origins of Queen Charlotte.” Golda Rosheuvel currently stars as the queen in Bridgerton.
But she’s not the only character. The prequel will also focus on Violet Bridgerton’s life. Possibly about how she met Edmund and fell in love at first sight. While there’s no book about Violet and Edmund’s love story, Violet has her own novella, Violet In Bloom. It’s part of The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After.
Lady Danbury will also be a part of the spin-off.
“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton,” Netflix’s Head of Global TV, Bela Bajaria, said in a statement.
She added, “Shonda [Rhimes] and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”
