Nick Cannon just revealed during his daytime talk show that his five-month-old son, Zen, passed away. The new parents discovered the baby had a brain tumor.
Early this year, Nick Cannon was the butt of many jokes. The comedian and rapper had fathered seven children, and he welcomed three of them within a twelve-month span.
The latest one, Zen, with his model girlfriend, Alyssa Scott, was born in July. Prior to that, just weeks before, he welcomed twins with DJ Abby de la Rosa. They were born on June 14th, and their names are Zion Mixolydian Cannon & Zillion Heir Cannon.
But in an emotional segment on his talk show, Nick Cannon, he revealed the loss of his five-month-old son Zen.
“Today is a special one y’all for many reasons but it’s not gonna be an easy one. I haven’t even shared this with anybody, not even the crew,” Cannon began. “I had a very tough weekend.”
The couple noticed the baby’s head was too large when he was just two months old. “He had this real interesting breathing and by the time he was two months old I noticed…he had this nice sized head, I called it a Cannon head. We didn’t think anything of it, he had a normal Cannon head. But I wanted to take him to the doctor to get the breathing and the sinus thing checked out. We thought it would be a routine process.”
But then the doctors discovered fluid building up and a malignant tumor that required surgery.
“We were faithful and hopeful for that time. We carried on, he was still just playing with his brothers and sisters, I embraced every moment,” he continued. “Zen’s mom, Alyssa, was just the strongest woman I’ve ever seen. Never had an argument, never was angry. Was emotional when she needed to be but always the best mom, and continues to be the best mom…”
Cannon also continued that Zen’s health took a turn for the worse around Thanksgiving as the “tumor began to grow a lot faster.”
The comedian added they spent “quality time” with Zen over the weekend in California, where he brought him to the ocean.
He also thanked fans for their “outpouring of love” and support: “It is brand new to me. So I’m dealing with it. So, thank you. Thank you. That’s all I can say. I’m not used to all of this hugging and ‘You okay?’ I’m fine … but of course, everyone knows that I’m not fine, but you guys are making me feel better,” he says.
“It’s just been an outpouring of love that is really unexpected. I didn’t expect it from all over the world I really can’t thank you guys enough,” he adds. “When I’m talking about the guilt I don’t want even make it about me like, but I say thank you from Alyssa, Zen’s mom, and the rest of our family…She’s making it, you know, five minutes at a time. But it’s but those words really, the tweets, it’s outstanding.”
