Nicki Minaj has a lot to say about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, aka the most talked about moment of the entire awards ceremony.
If you haven’t lived under a rock for the last 12 hours, you must’ve heard that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage on live television. Is it staged? Sure, some think so, but a lot think it’s not.
It all started with Chris Rock’s speech, which poked an insensitive joke at Jada Pinkett-Smith. He said “Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it. Alright?” After laughing it off, he added, “That was a nice one.”
Then Will went on stage, and physically slapped the comedian. “Wow, wow. Will Smith just smacked the s–t out of me,” Chris said.
Then the audio was muted when it played on ABC, but Smith screamed from his seat: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”
To which Chris replied, “Wow, dude. It was a G.I. Jane joke.” Will then repeated, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.” Finally, Rock agreed and said: “I’m going to, okay?”
Now Nicki Minaj is weighing in the situation between Will and Chris, and it’s more nuanced than we think. In a series of tweets, the rapper shared:
“I love Chris Rock. I don’t think he would’ve made that joke had he known what Jada recently shared,” she wrote, referencing Jada opening up about her Alopecia.
“But between him & the whole team @ the #Oscars you mean to tell me not ONE of y’all heard this woman just share this heartbreaking story? #ComeOnSon … Here’s the thing… And this is such an AMAZING – EYE OPENING example of it… The husband gets a front row seat to his wife’s pain… he’s the 1 consoling her… drying her tears behind closed doors when those cameras go off,” she continued.
“Social media has made ppl feel that these ‘husbands’ won’t ever run into them in real life. You just got to witness in real time what happens in a man’s soul when he looks over to the woman he loves & sees her holding back tears from a ‘little joke’ at her expense,” Nicki continued.
“This is what any & every real man feels in that instant. while y’all seeing the joke he’s seeing her pain Imagine what it must feel like to be losing your hair to the point where you have to shave it bald. You think that’s easy to deal with for anyone? You don’t think she’s cried about that many times? 2022 y’all gon have to see these men about those jokes you made about their wives.”
