July 7 Update: Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is here and John was not a part of the song.
Rumors are John Mayer will be joining Taylor Swift for the new version “Dear John.” The singer wants no drama when Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) will come out, so he’ll be playing the guitar on the song instead.
Taylor Swift recently released Red (Taylor’s Version), her second re-recorded album. But, of course, this isn’t enough for Swifties, as we want more. With four more albums to re-record, it’s a constant wondering about when the new one will drop. Or, in fact, which one Swift will choose next.
The majority of Swifties have been asking for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) for over half a year. So, will it be next? Less likely.
All signs seem to indicate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) will be next. Why, you ask? Because of several interviews, and her latest music video for “I Bet You Think About Me.” There are no bigger Speak Now vibes than that video.
According to new rumors, John Mayer will be playing the guitar in “Dear John (Taylor’s Version)”. The country singer wants no drama, especially after what Jake Gyllenhaal went through.
You might remember that the two briefly dated when Taylor was 19, and what came out of it were a few songs, on both sides. Swift penned “Dear John,” a powerful, six-minute ballad, and Mayer wrote “Paper Doll.”
But there are no hard feelings about it, and he wants to get ahead of the drama. According to an annon submission to Deux Moi, they shared: “Just heard from Columbia Records Exec John Mayer will play guitar (not sing) on “Dear John (Taylor’s Version)”.”
The source continued: “The collaboration was Este Haim’s idea who is friends with both Swift and Mayer, as she and Mayer are both signed with Columbia and performed together and Ron Perry’s (their record label’s CEO) birthday a couple of years ago.”
And claimed “There is also a music video in the works.”
Could it be true? Only time will tell, but I can’t wait for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
