There’s no “Bad Blood” — Olivia Rodrigo has just answered the speculation about “Vampire” being about Taylor Swift.
Not long ago, Olivia Rodrigo proclaimed herself to be Taylor Swift’s biggest fan. She was blaring her music, supporting her, and talking about her non-stop.
Then, a rift happened. And, as Olivia Rodrigo released her hit song “Vampire,” some fans were quick to assume it’s about Taylor Swift. In the song, Rodrigo sings about an unnamed “bloodsucker, famef—er.”
“How do I answer this?” Rodrigo reportedly whispered to The Guardian journalist Laura Snapes, when the question about “Vampire” arose during an interview ahead of the Sept. 8 release of Guts.
“I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about,” said Rodrigo. “I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.”
“I was very surprised when people thought that,” she added.
At the beginning of their relationship, the two addressed each other online. Swift praised Rodrigo afteer her breakout hit “Drivers License” appeared on the charts next to Swift’s music. “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” she sweetly wrote. The choice of words had a double meaning. First, it was what Andrea Swift, Taylor’s mom, said in an interview about her. Second, fans have been calling Taylor “mom” online for a while.
Swift also sent Rodrigo a Red (Taylor’s Version) ring when promoting the re-recorded album.
“She is absolutely the kindest individual in the whole world,” Rodrigo gushed at the time — and the pair met in person and posed together for a cute photo at the 2021 Brit Awards.
But it all came down after Rodrigo’s debut album, Sour, dropped. The album included some interpolations and she had to retroactively add songwriting credits for several artists, including Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Annie Clark.
They didn’t interact publicly since. Rodrigo didn’t attend The Eras Tour.
