Regé-Jean Page teased a possible cameo as Duke of Hastings in the upcoming season two of Bridgerton. But the actor seemed pretty sure he wouldn’t be making his return on the small screen too soon.
Regé-Jean Page made our hearts melt when he debuted on Netflix‘s Bridgerton as Duke of Hastings. The entire internet was talking about the steamy scenes between Simon and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), and they couldn’t wait for more. But Julia Quinn‘s books have a different main couple in every book, however, the characters often return for small cameos.
But after his roaring success, Regé-Jean Page received a lot of roles on serious films, with important fellow actors. So he made his position known that he thought his deal with Bridgerton is over, and he won’t be returning.
Back in April, the show’s official account wrote: “while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”
In a new interview with British GQ if the Duke of Hastings will have a cameo on the upcoming season of Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page play coy, and said: “You know I couldn’t tell you! Isn’t there something wonderful about being surprised by what you weren’t suspecting?”
But socialite account Deuxmoi received an anonymous tip claiming that his exit wasn’t exactly what show creator Shonda Rhimes had in mind. The anonymous source claims: “Season Two was written to open with the Duke and Duchess in bed. Phoebe Dynevor’s story line was significantly cut due to his absence. He signed on for one season and said he would come back for cameo purposes but peaced out when he felt he’d become so famous. Not the best way to deal with Ms Rhimes or the fans.”
