Robert De Niro and Roger Federer team up for a new commercial to promote Switzerland. In the commercial, the two of them paint Switzerland as a dreamy, no drama kind of place, and I just wanna go there.

COVID-19 affected all countries when it comes to tourism. So it’s only natural for certain places to try and get people hyped up about visiting. After almost a year and a half without traveling, the majority of people would just basically go anywhere.

So Switzerland is getting ahead of the game and bringing two major stars to promote it. Robert De Niro and Roger Federer team up for the commercial, and it just works.

Of course, when you hear about it, you think, what do the two have in common? De Niro is a huge A-List actor. But Swiss tennis player Federer himself is another A-lister. But in sports.

The commercial shot in New York on De Niro’s side and Zermatt, Switzerland, on Federer’s side. In the commercial, Switzerland Tourism’s new ambassador Federer asks De Niro to be his partner on a new project to promote Switzerland. But De Niro resists, saying that it cannot happen. But why? Because they’re “too nice.”

“Look at where you are — your mountains, your ski resorts, your charming little towns. There’s no drama, no drama at all.”

Federer tries to convince De Niro naming some of the activities you can do in Switzerland. Like sky diving, skiing, landing on fields with cows… There’s nothing that doesn’t sound appealing about Switzerland. De Niro also feels perfectly comfortable adding a “Fuck you” in a commercial about tourism. Hell, it’s Europe.

However, De Niro doesn’t agree. He ends the call suggesting “Maybe call Hanks [Tom].” To which, Federer adds the drama, asking “Who?”

I think this is the exact recipe of success to promote a country. BRB as I pack my bags to go to Switzerland.
