Model and aspiring actor Sam Asghari has just confirmed his split from Britney Spears with a message on social media.
On Wednesday, August 16, news broke out that Sam Asghari and Britney Spears split and are heading for divorce. The two had been together since 2016, when they met on set of her Glory‘s “Slumber Party” music video.
Sam popped the question in September 2021, with the two tying the knot in an A-list wedding in June 2022. 14 months later, news broke out of their split, amid rumors of marital struggles.
Now, Asghari hopped on social media to confirm the split. In a simple message shared on his Instagram Stories, the Iranian-American aspiring actor and fitness trainer wrote, “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect wee have for each other and I wish her the best always. Sh*t happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.“
There hasn’t been an official reason for the split, and Asghari didn’t provide one. According to sources to TMZ, Asghari accused Spears of infidelity and, following a fight where she allegedly got physical, he left their home. Other sources completely deny cheating is involved.
Following the news, Britney Spears hired high-powered Hollywood lawyer Laura Wasser to help her with the upcoming divorce. Other sources claim Asghari is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
Spears hasn’t addressed the split at the time of publication, but she did post on Instagram that she plans on “buying a horse soon.”
