Selena Gomez called out the writers of The Good Fight, who used her kidney transplant while commenting which jokes are allowed. Fans immediately called out the show, with the hashtag Respect Selena Gomez.

Selena Gomez needed a kidney transplant back in 2017. One of her friends, Francia Raisa, was a match, and she gave her the organ she needed. But it was necessary because of her struggle with lupus. And she spent some time out of the spotlight to recover.

In the years since, she has shared her story and has become an advocate for organ donation.

In a recent episode of The Good Fight, a scene commented whether it’s allowed to make a joke about Selena Gomez and her transplant. Spoiler alert. It’s not.

Fans immediately took it to Twitter to call out the show, and called out the joke. They also added the #RespectSelenaGomez tag.

Selena herself commented on this on Tuesday, writing: “I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently,” she wrote. “I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.”

She also thanked her fans, who “have her back.”
