Although Shawn and Camila remain friendly exes, and hang out, things are over between them. The two have dated a little over a year, and broke up this last November. Shawn Mendes followed up with “It’ll Be Okay,” which now has a music video.

His breakup song has a very mature point of view to it. Sometimes, relationships don’t last, and that’s okay. And you have to look at the bright side, the good times spent together, and move on.

In “It’ll Be Okay,” Shawn Mendes strolls around his hometown, Toronto, Canada in slow motion at nighttime. In fact, that’s pretty much all there is, showing that, sometimes leaves you chilly. Fans might remember that Mendes has had a crush on Cabello for years, and revealed all the songs he ever wrote were for her. Well, this new one is, too.

The song is also Mendes’ first solo music release since his fourth studio album Wonder, which came out in December 2020.

Before the world premiere of the song’s music video, Shawn also shared some details about the song in a live session. “I’m excited for you to see this video, I think it’s beautiful. I think you guys are gonna love it.”

He also shared his favorite lyric from the song, and revealed “My favorite line in the song is ‘I start to imagine a world where we don’t collide.’ I like the word ‘collide,’ I like the image of two people not just meeting in life, but two people — boom — in life.”

Jay Martin directed the music video, and he had worked with Mendes for his hits like “Mercy,” “Stitches,” and “In My Blood.”
