British actress Una Stubbs, who starred in Sherlock for four seasons, has just died at 84. Una portrayed Mrs. Hudson, a very beloved character in the series.
The actress starred in Sherlock for four seasons as Mrs. Hudson. Her character was always caring and kind to both Sherlock and John, reminding them often that she was their landlady, not their housekeeper. She also had a half-century career in TV, theater and film.
Her family released a statement to Deadline, revealing Una Stubbs died an illness. The statement reads: “Mum passed away quietly today with her family around her, in Edinburgh. We ask for privacy and understanding at this most difficult and sad of times.”
After the news broke out, Mark Gatiss, who created Sherlock, wrote: “
It was one of the great joys of my life to work so closely with and to adore Una Stubbs. She was a wonderful, wonderful woman and a great and serenely graceful actor. Mischief was in her blood. We were so blessed that she became our imperishable Mrs Hudson. Goodbye, darling.”
Sherlock’s official Twitter account added: “‘Mrs Hudson, leave Baker Street? England would fall.’ Goodbye to the wonderful and legendary Una Stubbs, forever our Mrs Hudson #unastubbs”
