Stranger Things creators defend not killing main characters for Season 4 in the highly-anticipated Vol. 2 which would tie up the season. Attention, spoilers ahead.
The last part of season 4 of Stranger Things debuted on Netflix over a week ago, but it’s still one of the most talked about shows.
However, the Netflix show has been met with some criticism because it hasn’t killed any main characters yet. The creators, the Duffer Brothers, hinted that we could see five deaths in the last two episodes of the fourth season.
If you’ve seen the last episodes, you will notice that no main character died. While people were happy to have their favorites (Steve) on the screen for the last season, some expected more deaths.
Including Millie Bobby Brown. She joked in an interview that there are too many cast members. “It’s way too big. Last night [at the premiere], we couldn’t even take one group picture because there were like 50 of us. I was like, you need to start killing people off. The Duffer brothers are two sensitive Sallies that don’t want to kill anyone off. We need to be Game of Thrones. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones.”
But the Stranger Things creators defended not killing off main characters… yet.
Matt Duffer told the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “What did Millie call us? She said we were ‘sensitive Sallies.’ She’s hilarious. Believe us, we’ve explored all options in the writing room. Just as a complete hypothetical, if you kill Mike, it’s like. … That’s depressing. … We aren’t Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it’s not Westeros. The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore, because you do have to treat it realistically, right?”
The show still has yet another season to come, as it has been officially confirmed for season 5, which will also be its last. But the Hawkins world is far from over, with a spin-off in the works. There’s no details about that, or the date for season 5.
