Last month, news broke out that Bill and Melinda Gates would be getting a divorce. Their joint statement was as loving as respectful as it gets. But the reality is anything but.
It looks like things between the billionaire and his philanthropic wife weren’t going that well. Their family is reportedly taking Melinda’s side, and they’re upset with Bill.
New information came to light that Bill Gates stepped down as a board member at Microsoft because of an affair. An employee broad the information to light, and he reportedly underwent an internal investigation.
Back in March 2020, Bill Gates wrote: “I have made the decision to step down from both of the public boards on which I serve – Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway – to dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and my increasing engagement in tackling climate change.”
Gates acknowledged the affair in a statement through a spokeswoman to the Journal while contending that the relationship “ended amicably.”
According to PEOPLE, Gates’ rep said: “There was an affair almost 20 years ago which ended amicably. Bill’s decision to transition off the board was in no way related to this matter. In fact, he had expressed an interest in spending more time on his philanthropy starting several years earlier.”
“Microsoft received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000. A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern.”
