Britney Spears has just hopped on social media to clarify the situation where NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s security assaulted her.

She posted a lengthy letter on Instagram where she claims she “tapped” NBA player Victor Wembanyama on the shoulder.

Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them,” the “Baby One More Time” singer began. “I was not prepared for what happened to me last night.”

Britney shared she recognized Wembanyama and wanted to approach him, “I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention,” she said. “I am aware of the players statement where he mentioned ‘I grabbed him from behind,’ but I simply tapped him on the shoulder.

She continued: “His security then backhanded me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses [to fall] off my face.

The pop superstar noted that she is familiar with being caught in crowds of people, saying “I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans” that same night. “My security team didn’t hit any of them,” she added.

NBA Player Victor Wembanyama’s Version

Wembanyama had his own story about it: “I saw the news obviously,” the 19-year-old basketball star said in a video shared by KENS reporter Nate Ryan on Twitter. “I woke up to a couple of phone calls. Something did happen a little bit when I was walking with some security of the team to some restaurant. We were in a hall and there was a lot of people so people were calling me obviously.”

He continued, “That person grabbed me from behind,” he continued. “I didn’t see what happened because I was walking straight and they told me ‘Don’t stop.’ But that person grabbed me from behind, grabbed on my shoulder. She grabbed me from behind so I just know that the security pushed her away.”

The incident took place in Las Vegas at Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel around 8:30 PM. Britney, along with her husband, Sam Asghari, and two others went to the restaurant for dinner. She was swarmed by fans as she entered the casino.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirms to PEOPLE that “officers responded to a property in the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard regarding a battery investigation” around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

Whatever happened, nothing gave the security guard any right to assault her. Even if he didn’t know it was superstar Britney Spears, it could’ve been any of the NBA star’s fans.
