Joe Alwyn has surprisingly addressed his former relationship with Taylor Swift over a year after their split.
Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift officially started dating sometime in September 2016 after briefly meeting in the spring of the same year. Before their relationship, Swift dated Calvin Harris, whom she was dating around the time they met, and Marvel star Tom Hiddleston, with whom he had a brief romance. Taylor and Joe dated for over six years before their breakup in March 2023.
Throughout their relationship, Alwyn constantly argued about their rights to privacy, keeping every detail about their relationship private (including his favorite songs from the popular singer-songwriter). Now, over a year after their split, Alwyn surprisingly gave the media some crumbs about their “loving” relationship.
In an interview with The Sunday Times Style, Alwyn danced around the question of whether he listened to Taylor’s most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department. The 31-song record-breaking masterpiece is speculated to include some hints at their relationship. Fans debate whether songs like “loml,” “So Long, London,” and “The Black Dog” are about the British actor.
“In thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize.… This isn’t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about.” He continued, “I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.“
“That is a hard thing to navigate,” Alwyn added. “What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.”
“So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition,” Alwyn explained. “And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.”
Alwyn continued that he and Taylor “mutually” decided to “keep the more private details of our relationship private.” He noted, “It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.”
Taylor Swift Has Since Moved On
The actor didn’t want to reveal whether he was dating again. “I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now,” Alwyn said. Things are different with Taylor.
Since July 2023, she has been officially dating Kansas City Chiefs’ star Travis Kelce. The two of them are still going strong, and they are constantly making efforts to support each other. Taylor attended several games to support her beau, and Travis attended several concerts of The Eras Tour, as much as their schedule allowed.
