Katy Perry attended Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour in Sydney, Australia, and didn’t miss the opportunity to snap a picture together.
Back in 2014, the “Anti-Hero” superstar announced “Bad Blood,” which is rumored to be about the “I Kissed A Girl” singer. Flash forward to ten years later, Katy Perry proved she and Taylor Swift had none after attending The Eras Tour in Syndey, Australia. Perry was in the VIP tent, sitting next to singer Rita Ora and her husband, director Taika Waititi, but also Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
Following the end of the show, Perry snapped a picture hugging Swift. She also shared a series of photos and videos from the show, along with the caption: “got to see an old friend shine tonight.” In the same set, Perry also included a short video of herself singing “Bad Blood.”
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry’s Feud Explained
For years, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have been in a public feud which resulted in Swift’s “Bad Blood” song off her record-breaking 1989 album. The two started as friends. Swift shared her support for Perry in 2009, and they exchanged several messages online over the years. However, it all came crashing down in 2014.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Swift said her new song “Bad Blood” was about another woman in the music industry. “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Swift said in the interview. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”
Swift explained to the outlet that the unnamed artist “did something so horrible” and called her relationship with the unnamed singer akin to “straight-up enemies.” She added, “And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational—you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So, now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
The day after the story appeared online, Perry tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
Their ongoing feud was supposedly because of their backup dancers. Swift was just about to embark on her 1989 World Tour, and some of her dancers were Perry’s previous backup dancers. However, once Perry decided to go on tour again, she approached some of the dancers, who decided to leave Swift to reunite with Perry. Over the years, the two have thrown digs at each other in several interviews or online.
Ahead of Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018, Perry sent Swift a surprising gift — a literal olive branch, and a sweet letter. The two have been on good terms since, and Perry attending The Eras Tour confirms that. In 2019, Perry also appeared in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.
