Today marks the star of Pride Month, and we have gathered a list of some of the LGBTQ+ A-List power couples. From Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi to Billy Porter and Adam Smith, they all teach us that love is love, and it’s worth celebrating.
Pride Month is here, and we need to talk about its importance. Minorities have always been persecuted. The fact that people still deny other people basic respect and room to grow is still concerning.
The LGBTQ+ has found hard to find the acceptance they now have. And it’s not enough. Not even close. We have a long way to go, but there’s the hope of a better tomorrow.
We have some celebrities that have been very open about how they love, and they show it with pride.
Here’s some of the LGBTQ+ A-List power couples:
- Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi
Ellen DeGeneres is such an icon, who had her share of pain when she came out over two decades ago. But she found her happily ever after with Arrested Development actress Portia De Rossi. The couple married in 2008.
The couple have been together since 1993. They are also an iconic couple, and Sir Elton John himself changed many people’s perceptions when it comes to LGBTQ. The pair finally tied the knot in December 2014, after same-sex marriage was legalized in the U.K. They share two sons, Zachary and Elijah.
- Jodie Foster and Alexandra Hedison
Jodie and photographer Alexandra Hedison kept their love out of the spotlight for a long time. But they had been together for a decade when they were married in 2014 in a top-secret ceremony.
- Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
Sarah opened up to Town & Country in 2018 about their 32 year difference. “I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with. My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business. But I do want to live responsibly and truthfully without hiding. It’s complicated, because there is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of good can come from quote-unquote normalizing something for people who don’t see it as normal. Our relationship represents a certain amount of hope and risk. Maybe there’s something brave in it. Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices. What else can I say? We love each other.”
- Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni
The pair tied the knot in New York City in May 2012, one year after welcoming son Max Ellington. They had been together since 2004. Nixon had previously been married to a man, but she shared with The Telegraph: “I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.”
- Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef
Ricky Martin kept his sexuality under wraps for a long time. There had been a lot of supposition, but he didn’t speak on it. He married Jwah Yosef in 2018, and they share four children via surrogate, twins Matteo and Valentino, daughter Lucia and son Renn. Ricky said: “When I first saw him, I said, ‘I am going to marry this guy.’ And apparently, he said exactly the same thing.”
- RuPaul and Georges LeBar
RuPaul and Georges LeBar met at the Limelight disco in 1994. The drag queen and rancher have been together over 25 years and were married in 2017.
- Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita
Jesse and Justin first met at the gym (although they tell people it was “through mutual friends”). They got engaged in Mexico in September 2012 after two years of dating. They officially married in New York City in 2013.
The two have started dating in 2004. They made their red carpet debut together in September 2007 at the Emmy Awards. Neil later confirmed their relationship during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Lance Bass and Michael Turchin
Lance Bass & Michael Turchin began dating in 2010. Bass popped the question to Turchin in August 2013. They got married in December 2014.
Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner
This couple has been together for 50 years. The actress and screenwriter met in a professional setting, but fell in love almost immediately after meeting.
Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak
Jim had proposed to then-boyfriend Todd Spiewak days after he took home the 2010 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. While Jim didn’t speak much about his sexuality, he never attempted to hide the fact that he and Spiewak were a couple. They got married in New York City in May 2017.
Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan
The Mean Girls actor, who looks sexy with his hair pushed back, got engaged in November 2020. For the proposal, Vaughan wrote Bennett a song, and it was all caught on camera on their People exclusive issue.
Billy Porter and Adam Smith
Billy married Adam Smith, on January 14, 2017, after meeting him in 2009. He was very keen to get married “while Obama was still president and before January 20th, 2017″ so the two got engaged on December 29, 2016. They married 2 weeks later.
