Norman Reedus was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There he opened up about the upcoming solo Daryl Dixon spin-off.

The actor, who has been with TWD since the beginning of the series, originally had an upcoming spin-off with Melissa McBride’s Carol. The show, which originally debuted on AMC in 2010, saw the two main characters go through all kinds of hardships, zombies, and deaths, but, luckily, they survived.

And they were to go on many more adventures. But a week ago, AMC announced Melissa McBride will not be a part of the upcoming untitled spin-off.

The network announced the decision on Wednesday in a statement: “Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human and popular characters in The Walking Dead Universe. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spinoff focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year. Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.

A huge uproar followed, as fans weren’t too happy to see McBride leave due to the newly-announced relocation.

But now Norman Reedus is addressing the spin-off in his latest interview. He shared: “I know it’s going to be much different than the show. You know, it was originally Carol and I, Melissa McBride and I,” he started. “And she’s taking time off.

Reedus continued: “You know, 12 years is a grueling schedule, and she wanted to take some time off. So, she’s doing that and she deserves it.”

He did add that he imagines the characters “are going to meet back up at some point.” He also suggested that Daryl might run into some other known characters “down the road.

In the meantime, he agreed to go “on a mission.” The yet untitled show will focus on Daryl Dixon, at least in the beginning.
