Simu Liu won’t take Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese‘s Marvel comments lightly. The Marvel star has fired back at the two directors, adding that old Hollywood was “white as hell.“
Look, we get it. Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese have won so many Oscars they feel like they make the rules in Hollywood. Except they don’t, the public does. And, for the past decade, the public has liked a lot of Marvel movies.
That didn’t stop the both Academy Award-winning directors to slam the movies as “ruining the cinema” and not real movies.
But Simu Liu, the star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, strongly disagrees with the two directors and he’s not afraid to speak up.
On Wednesday, the Shang-Chi star took to social media to address the numerous criticisms levied upon the Marvel franchise.
“If the only gatekeepers to movie stardom came from Tarantino and Scorsese, I would never have had the opportunity to lead a $400 million plus movie,” Liu tweeted. “I am in awe of their filmmaking genius. They are transcendent auteurs. But they don’t get to point their nose at me or anyone.“
And Simu Liu had some harsh, but true, words for Tarantino and Scorsese:
“No movie studio is or ever will be perfect. But I’m proud to work with one that has made sustained efforts to improve diversity onscreen by creating heroes that empower and inspire people of all communities everywhere,” he continued. “I loved the ‘Golden Age’ too.. but it was white as hell.“

I loved the “Golden Age” too.. but it was white as hell.
In the past, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn also had some strong words about the claims that Marvel movies are “not cinema.”
And, in the end, the Marvel movies continue to be strong blockbusters, so Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese’s opinion didn’t really convince many people.
